Tips and Best Practices

How to prepare for your live interview
Prepare before the interview
  • Read over the FAQs below to remind yourself what Paragon One externships are all about.
  • Practice speaking about your experiences through utilizing the four components of the STAR method. Check out this article on the STAR method.
  • Situation: Describe the situation.
  • Task: What did you have to do?
  • Action: What steps did you take to make it happen?
  • Result: What were the results of your actions?
  • Finally, prepare to share why this opportunity is a great fit for you—and why you’re an amazing fit for the externship!
It’s interview day!
  • Find a quiet and well lit space to conduct your interview.
  • Try to join the interview a bit early to test your internet, audio, and webcam connection.
  • Remember, our interviews are short, and the time will fly. Focus on providing clear answers to the questions, and aim for answers that are about 2-3 minutes each.
  • If you need to pause to think before you answer (always a good idea), ask for a moment to collect your thoughts—we’re sure you’ll dazzle us.
Your interview is complete!
  • It can take up to two to three weeks for our team to notify candidates if they have been selected for an externship. So sit tight! Do some more research on the company you’re applying for. Connect with some of our student ambassadors on LinkedIn and ask them how their experiences were!
